Although both cities’ residents are predominantly wealthy, both have a significantly large population of poor and homeless. These high costs create socioeconomic disparity among the residents. A downtown one-bedroom apartment in DC can easily cost $1,800 per month, and a similar “flat” in London may double that amount. Both cities share a very expensive cost of living-both in terms of housing and shopping. With clubs and pubs that tend to stay open later than their British counterparts, the DC night life tend to be less reserved overall.īoth cities also share and differ in cultural diversity and cost of living. While London may be better known for its pubs and taste in beer, DC offers a different bar-going experience. Both have a wide selection of expensive, elegant restaurants as well as a similar amount of global and national chains. With regard to other cultural places like restaurants, pubs, and bars, both cities are very comparable. Both cities have thriving theater districts, but again, London wins this comparison, too, both in quantity and quality of theater choices. London has a much richer past than Washington, DC, and consequently has a lot more material to pull from when arranging its collections. This difference and advantage has much to do with London and Britain’s historical depth compared to that of the United States. From the Tate Modern to the British National Gallery, London’s art ranks among the world’s best. While Washington, DC, has the National Gallery of Art and several other Smithsonian galleries, London’s art scene and galleries have a definite edge in this category. Even though both cities have different histories, they have both held, and continue to hold, significant social influence in the economic and cultural global spheres.īoth Washington, DC, and London offer a wide array of museums that harbor many of the world’s most prized treasures. From that point onward to today, however, Washington, DC, has increasingly maintained significant global influence. Though Native Americans inhabited the land several thousand years earlier, and settlers inhabited the land as early as the sixteenth century, the city did not become the capital of the United States until the 1790s. Washington, DC, on the other hand, has only formally existed since the late eighteenth century. It was not only one of the northernmost points of the Roman Empire but also the epicenter of the British Empire where it held significant global influence from the early sixteenth century on through the early twentieth century. It was part of the Roman Empire and known by the similar name, Londinium. London, for example, has a history that dates back over two thousand years. Comparing and contrasting the two cities based on their history, their culture, and their residents show how different and similar the two are.īoth cities are rich in world and national history, though they developed on very different time lines. Compare and Contrast Essay Comparing and Contrasting London and Washington, DCīoth Washington, DC, and London are capital cities of English-speaking countries, and yet they offer vastly different experiences to their residents and visitors.

Allows Videohub to run off of DC power (optional). The installation demo below will show you how to install both the DC power cable and fan modifications. No soldering is required, installation is as easy as unplugging a cable inside the hub and plugging the new one in. The kit comes with a custom power cable as well as an AC/DC 60W 12V power Supply with modified 4 pin XLR cable end. For sufficient cooling, we strongly recommend that you leave at least 1/2 rack unit space above the Videohub unit. This modification includes an upper panel with pre-installed fans for easy installation, requiring the user to remove the old panel and fans from the Videohub and adding our modified panel by plugging the fans into their corresponding connections and reinstalling the top panel. The reason for small lore being so varied is due to the setting having to conform to a set of rules, and so small lore often must change to fit them. Dark Sun has plenty of examples of small lore that has changed and caused some strife: half-giants/goliaths, The Gray/Shadowfell, Elemental Clerics/Primal Magic, defiling mechanisms, etc. As is apparent, small lore does not necessarily carry over from one edition to the next and often becomes the subject of setting wars were one group prefers the feel of one iteration of a setting or another. Small lore are those little things like halflings not being able to cast arcane spells. After all, large lore makes Dark Sun the setting that people recognize and want to play. If large lore helps define what the world is, “small lore” guides the game. The City-States and their kings were the same, most landmarks were recognizable, and the general behavior of the world was intact. Still, 2e and 4e had what might be called “large lore”. Extensive lore however is often seen as doing that for players. The reason for 4e Dark Sun’s limited lore was in part so players and DM’s could explore and create the world. For example, 4e has a short section on the Kreen Khanates in the Hinterlands but is a far cry from the depth of the 2e Thri-kreen of Athas. Instead, 4e hinted at people, places, or events covered more extensively in 2e. A consistent lore enables a world to be a common language among fans and a setting where players have a reasonable understanding of what to expect. So voluminous and rich was the 2e Dark Sun lore, the 4e Dark Sun could not match it. It’s also worth noting that the longer version of the word is feisty, which relates to how the dog acts.įeist dogs became popular hunting dogs in the south. They claim that men who spoke Old English would use this as a derisive term for their dogs. Others believe that the name is an old German term that means fart. Some people believe that the dogs share a name with Raymond Feist after he owned several of them. There are several rumors about where this name came from and what it means. Before you decide to buy a Feist puppy, use our article to learn everything you need to know about this breed. Many people love how cute the dogs are and how much they resemble Jack Russell pups. These dogs go by other names such as Treeing Feist or Mountain Feist and are common in the American South. One dog you may not consider because you never heard of the breed before is the Feist. A feist’s energy needs and outlet, and if the dog is not able to expend the energy through exercise or work, then it can end up doing so through destructive means, such as chewing or digging.Choosing the right dog or puppy for your home and family is difficult because you need to consider factors such as the pup’s activity level and temperament as well as how much time you have for training. The feist requires a lot of exercise, and should get daily walk(s), especially if they are not being utilized as a hunting companion or some other field work. They are not well-suited for small yards or apartment living. Since the feist has been bred as a hunting dog, it has what seems like unlimited amounts of energy and requires room to run around and exercise, when not out in the field hunting. They are very vocal and will not hesitate to communicate through baying, barking, and growling. The feist is an alert, curious and highly intelligent dog breed, and has guarding instincts when it comes to her owner and family. The color their coat comes in a large variety and include red and white, blue and white, black and tan, red brindle, red, black, and spotted tricolors. They have a height range of 12-17 inches at the withers, with a short, dense and smooth coat. Physically, feists are small- to medium-sized dogs, ranging in weight from 10-30 lbs. Despite being classified as terriers, unlike other breeds in this category, they usually stay above ground when hunting, even though they are highly interested in chasing rabbits, and other rodents. When hunting, feist dogs work quietly, generally working to tree their target prey (generally squirlls), and keep it in the tree until their human hunting companion arrives. Written records of the feist breed, in the United States, go back several centuries, and are even mentioned in George Washington’s diary, in 1770, as “a small foist looking yellow cur.” They have been mentioned in poetry and prose, and are a distinct part of southern rural life. The feist breed (sometimes also spelled as fice or even less frequently, fyce) is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but is, oddly enough, recognized by the United Kennel Club (as a terrier), even though they are mostly found in the Southern parts of the United States, especially around the birthplace of the American Feist, the Southern Appalachian regions. The feist is a hunting dog, and is specifically bred to be high energy and feisty. Feist dogs are of mixed breeds, and mostly known in the Southern United States, even though they have been traced back hundreds of years. Thieves generally don’t hang around long enough to overkill their victims. But a carjacking didn’t make sense because of the extent of Stidham’s injuries. The killer drove off in Stidham’s 1992 Lexus to make it look like a murder-carjacking scenario, authorities believed. They theorized that just after Stidham placed his pizza on the top of the car and unlocked the door, the attacker sprang into action. The next day, detectives found Brian Stidham’s car abandoned in an apartment building parking lot, with his blood on the inside of the door. Raised in Longview, Texas, Stidham loved Tucson Bradley Schwartz, a fellow ophthalmologist. She mentioned that her husband had an enemy, Dr. Police ultimately chalked up Daphne Stidham’s reaction to the fact that she had taken sleeping pills that night and was disoriented. Most viewers were probably hoping for a spouse-on-spouse murder drama, but the investigation led another way. They had to break into the house when she didn’t answer the door, and then her first words were to ask whether her husband had been “shot.” When police showed up at Stidham’s house to deliver the tragic news to his wife, Daphne, she behaved in a strange way. Stidham had just finished giving a lecture to some University of Arizona medical students at the time of the attack. Like Schwartz, Stidham was an ophthalmic surgeon he specialized in treating children. They spotted a partly eaten slice of pizza on the ground. On October 5, 2004, a concerned passerby called 911 after finding a gravely injured man sprawled out on the blacktop.īrian Stidham, age 37, had been stabbed 15 to 17 times (accounts vary) and his car was stolen, but police noted he still had his wallet with cash inside. But first, here’s a recap of “ Office Visit,” the Forensic Files episode about the case, along with information from internet research: For this week, I checked around for an epilogue on Schwartz and Bigger. Schwartz - who blamed his former colleague Stidham for the downfall of his medical practice - took a phone call from hitman Bruce Bigger.Īnd as if establishing an electronic trail to Bigger on the night of the murder weren’t enough, he had Bigger come to the restaurant and sit down at his table briefly to confirm that the crime had happened. The dinner alibi might have worked if not for what happened during the meal. He made sure he was out in public, eating at a restaurant around the time that a hired thug was stabbing Stidham to death in a parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. Bradley Schwartz, an ophthalmologist just out of drug rehab, did take some other precautions, however. Victim Brian Stidham left behind two childrenįor one, they didn’t know that phone contact between conspirators in the moments right before or after a murder is the kind of evidence that makes a county prosecutor’s job worth the commute. Brian Stidham obviously didn’t watch the show often enough. Like many of the criminals featured on Forensic Files, the men who murdered Dr. |
